Safeguarding in the Curriculum

Safeguarding, and how give children the skills and knowledge to keep themselves safe, is woven across the curriculum. The areas that we teach are often linked to various curriculum areas, including Computing (see our Online Safety page), and RSHE. Safeguarding areas that we teach are grouped into areas, and can be viewed in the document below:

Safeguarding Areas in the Curriculum

Broken down by age, we teach Safeguarding in a progressive way depending on the age of the chidlren:

Safeguarding in the Curriculum by Phase/Age

Regular visitors come to teach the children about aspects of personal safety (e.g. fire service, health, police), and children are kept informed via whole school assemblies of how to stay safe and what to do if certain situations occur (e.g. cyberbullying). Teachers also give age-appropriate messages via RSHE lessons and class worship every week. This includes Picture News (current affairs, and issues that are relevant to children), and Pupil Briefing sessions.

Pupil Briefings are taught weekly in class, and are planned by the Head of School. All classes teach similar themes, sometimes broken down for older/younger pupils, and teachers adapt these to taddress the needs of  the particular age of the children, and in age-approapriate ways.

The Briefings are planned to include any aspects of safety that occur during the week, so are responsive and immediate to any emerging concerns. They touch on safety, British Values, protected characteristics, behaviour, events in the news and so on. Click below to see some examples:
